Mystic River makes strong showing in first outing this awards season.

Mystic River : Clint Eastwood's latest directorial outing has its first nod for BEST PICTURE, garnering the accolade from The National Board of Review, according to a report in {quoteVariety}.

Other awards went to Edward Zwick, Best Director, for The Last Samurai; to Sean Penn as Best Actor for his roles in both Mystic River and 21 Grams; and to Diane Keaton as Best Actress for her role in Something's Gotta Give.

The NBR marks the first outing in what should turn out to be a hotly contested awards season
