MADE OF HONOR (2008)

"Pretty Funny."

What a surprise! Sometimes a movie comes along and you think it's going to be dumb but it's not. MADE OF HONOR is a funny romantic comedy. Silly but not stupid silly. It's got some ridiculous scenes that are there to emphasize some points. It doesn't have vulgar humor but it's not completely family friendly either. This is the kind of movie that's perfect for... the season of summer weddings and summer love. I gotta admit, the concept is interesting, comes from asking, 'what if' the maid of honor was a straight male?

People tend to underestimate the job of a maid of honor. The story sort of outlines the responsibilities of a maid of honor but exaggerates them a little. Keep in mind that the main character has an agenda for his agreeing to take on the duty. How far would you go for love? What would you be willing to do? Would you wear a kilt?

A guy being a maid of honor would find this to be the most difficult job in the world, being in a meeting with other maid of honors, arranging bridal shower, suggesting the best dress, the best lingerie, and walks with the bride wherever she goes.

All of those and more are made fun of in this movie because the character Tom has to read a bunch of bridal magazines just to become an expert, he'll try to be the best maid of honor he could be so that Hannah would see that he can become a responsible adult and not just a fornicator.

And just like any romantic comedies and chick flicks out there that are about a guy who's in love with a girl who's about to marry someone else, there's a scene of the guy interrupting the wedding at the last scene.

The dialogue may not be memorable, but nevertheless the whole situation is sweet.. once again, just like any other romantic comedies that deal with the same theme.

BTW, I love Scotland, the majestic nature of the emerald land captured in this movie is breathtaking. The scenery is just amazing

There's a lot of jokes about emasculation, mostly from his guy friends because of his decision to go through with the whole thing. What I don't like too much is that there are jokes that make fun of those who are deemed uncool by society.

Michelle Monahan is cute for a white girl and perfect for the part, but she's too talented to get stuck doing movies like this. While Patrick Dempsey, I think he's the Meg Ryan. Meaning... I think he'll be doing romantic comedies for a while now because I just can't picture him doing thriller, action, or horror.
