"Do not eat me when I save your life!"
Well I have to say that I am amazed at how much people disliked this movie. I mean I can understand the whole, it shouldn't be in english part, but I think that it wasn't that big of a deal, and I got to say, if you were expecting some dinosaurs in this movie, well then you really need to go back to your history and science classes because dinosaurs are over five million years old, and this movie was set just over twelve thousaned years ago. I myself found this to be a truely epic and adventurous movie.
The director and writer of this movie was Rolan Emmerich, and he worked together with the other writer Harald Kloser, and what a masterpiece these two came up with. The story they put to it was a very interesting one, and one that was fun to watch as well. They also knew the good angles that you use to put everything together.
The visuals in this movie are some that are truly stunning. The way that the different cultures and such that the main character confronts and teams up with are truly stunning. The saber toothed tiger, or spear tooth as it is called by the characters, as well as the wooly mammoths are truly stunning to see, and are very realistic looking. It's all very breathtaking visual wise and you can't help but be in awe when you see everything.
The storyline of this movie is another good thing about the movie. It's an epic journey bestowed upon one man who no one believes in as he follows a band of demons to the far reaches of the land to retrieve his true love and set all of his friends and fellow villagers free. It's truly breathtaking and it grips you almost instantly. It's a very fast-paced and adventurous film that even lets loose a little bit of comedy at points.
Stephen Straight, who has been in a couple of other movies that I really enjoyed, takes the lead role of this film as D'Leh. D'Leh is a man whose father abandoned his tribe and his son after D'Leh's mother dies in child birth. Constantly he is battered by the others as the son of a coward, and he finds acceptance no where. Soon though, the last hunt of the season arrives and in the hunt he brings down a mammoth all by himself. He wins the white spear and takes the title of the best hunter as well as winning the woman that he has always loved, Evolet, but soon he must admit that him taking down the mammoth is only a fluke due to his clumsiness. That's when the four-legged demons attack his village, steal Evolet and many of the other villagers. He soon heads out with the great hunter Tic'Tic and they go to save Evolet and set free the entire village from these four-legged demons. They soon meet up with a village who shares their desire and together they head up against these evil beings. Stephen Straight does an amazing job in this movie, and I think that playing someone from so long ago would be something hard to pull off, but he does it incredibly well. He was a very convincing character in this movie and it just added to the movie all the more.
Camilla Belle takes the role of Evolet in this movie. Evolet is a woman who wanders into the D'Leh's village after her entire village is destroyed by the evil four-legged demons. She is taken in and promised to the winner of the white spear during the final hunt. She falls in love with D'Leh and during the final hunt he wins the white spear along with herself, but then she learns that D'Leh winning the spear was only because of his clumsiness. That night a group of four-legged demons ransacks the village and takes her and most of the rest of the village hostage. However, the leader of these four-legged demons fall in love with her and he treats her alot better than everyone else. She is constantly fighting to gain freedom and to help the rest of her village as well as to get away from the man who has fallen in love with her. Camilla Belle, who has also been in a few of the movies that I've liked does an excellent job in this film. She pulls of the whole prehistoric woman role very believably and convincingly and she does just such an excellent job it really adds to the air of the movie.
Cliff Curtis, whom I'm not that familiar with, stars in this movie as the legendary tribal hunter Tic'Tic. Tic'Tic is the lead hunter of the tribe and when he sees the D'Leh has won he is quite unbelieving as well he should be. He soon finds out that D'Leh only killed the mammoth out of sheer clumsiness, but soon the village is attacked and Evolet as well as many other of the villagers are kidnapped, and he decides to help D'Leh out in his journey. Throughout the journey Tic'Tic begins to see that D'Leh has amazing courage, and he soon relays to D'Leh the truth about his father. He tells him that his father left the tribe to help save it, but he wanted everyone to believe that he had abandoned them so that they would not follow. Through the whole movie Tic'Tic is like a second father to D'Leh and he guards and teaches him all the things that he will need to know. Cliff Curtis does an amazing job with this and it's a very moving role. He makes this character so believable that it's very convincing.
Affif Ben Badra plays the Warlord in this movie. The Warlord is the leader of the four-legged demons, and he is a ruthless and terrifying figure in this movie. The Warlord ransacks village after villagge to find slaves to serve his master, whom I'm going to assume is the pharoh of Egypt, so that they may serve his purposes. That is until The Warlord meets Evolet whom he immediately falls in love with. Throughout the movie he is rough ruthless and terrifying, but with Evolet he is caring and thoughtful. He constantly angers his fellow warriors with his deep effection for Evolet. Affif Ben Badra, whom I do not know at all does a really outstanding job in this movie. He is so terrifying in it, that he makes the character and movie that much more believable. He was definitely a great casting choice for this movie.
All in all I'd say that this is one of the best ancient historical movies that I have ever seen. I enjoyed every minute of it, and I'm sure that you will as well. If you haven't seen it, then go out and rent it now, it is definitely worth the watch!!!!!
