MONSTER HOUSE (2006)

""It's alive; the house is alive""

Monster House is an animated film made for adults. Robert Zemekis and Steven Spielberg have teamed up with new-time director Gill Keenan to deliver a haunting tale of three kids who set out one Halloween to score loads of candy. During this candy quest, they visit a seemingly haunted house, which may be responsible for the disappearance of other trick-or-treaters. Their innocent outing turns into a dangerous adventure. The film has such stars as Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhal, Kevin James, and John Heder.

This movie is a seriously entertaining animated film that will both excite and scare you. Monster house has a surprisingly kooky plot about an adolescent boy named Dj (Mitchel Musso) and his overweight friend Chowder (Sam Lerner) who try to find out why the house is alive and why it is terrorizing people. The owner of the house, Mr. Nebercracker, is an old lonely man who doesn't like kids on his lawn. Newcomer and Girl Scout, Jenny (Spencer Locke), becomes a victim to this house of terror. Dj, Chowder, and their new-found friend Jenny, then make a plan to destroy the house.

The plot of the film is a bit out of ordinary compared to other kid's movies this year. With voice-overs from an unlikely stellar cast and an amazing animation team, this film is appealing to all audiences Maggie Gyllenhal is a delight in this movie as the alternative teenage babysitter from hell. The animation team should give themselves a hand for delivering such an awesome setting. The motions of the characters are an echo of people's reactions. Films such as these are a marvel to witness. Pixar and Disney lost their chance at getting a nod for Best Animated Film at the Oscars because this movie surpasses them all and is a front runner for Best Animated Film feature.

I would strongly caution parents not to take a child under the age of 12 to the movie, as the spooky effect of shadows and the tone of the music make Monster House a scary treat.
